Keep the revs up and the diesel engine is very eager to please, feeling quicker than the on-paper 0-62 mph time.
The Peugeot RCZ was launched in the UK in the spring of 2010 and is a 2+2 Coupe based on the 308 RCZ, first shown at the Frankfurt Motor Show in 2007 and was first shown in the UK in 2009.
The RCZ model range is priced from £21,210 for the Sport THP 156 to £29,995 for the Asphalt THP 200.
We tested the Peugeot RCZ GT 2.0 HDi with a list price of £25,400.
The Peugeot RCZ is available with three engine options all turbocharged - one diesel and two petrol.
The 2.0 litre diesel engine produces 163 bhp / 340 Nm torque and is mated to a 6-speed manual gearbox.
The petrol line-up comprises of a 156 bhp / 240 NM and a 200 bhp / 275Nm, both 1.6 litre units. The 156 bhp engine can be specified with either a 6-speed manual or automatic gearbox, whilst the 200 bhp unit only comes with a 6-speed manual gearbox.
All models are front wheel drive, although there is scope for four-wheel drive in the future.
We drove the turbocharged diesel powered Peugeot RCZ GT with a 2.0 litre 163 bhp engine, which will accelerate from 0-62 mph 8.7 seconds and continue on to a top speed of 137 mph . The diesel RCZ GT CO2 emissions are rated at a resonable 139g/km.
Keep the revs up and the diesel engine is very eager to please, feeling quicker than the on-paper 0-62 mph time. The engine is relatively quiet for a diesel and the six-speed gearbox is a joy to use.
The official combined fuel consumption figure for the 2.0 litre 163 bhp engine is 53.2 mpg, urban 41.5 mpg and extra urban is quoted as 62.7 mpg. We averaged between 41 – 43 mpg over our mixed test route, we thought that was reasonable considering our driving style. When being more careful we could achieve around 52 mpg which considering the hilly terrain and the amount of traffic we thought was commendable.
